Auditoriums need perfect seating solutions. Generally, these halls have a stage with many seats around the stage. The stage must be visible to all people seated in the auditorium. Likewise, seating plays an essential role because it must keep the audience comfortable with making them enjoy the performance.

Auditorium seating must have quality seats because people sit for hours together to watch the event. As such, uncomfortable seats prevent the audience from returning to the hall again to watch another performance. Hence, if the seating arrangements are poor, it leads to a decrease in revenue.

    How to Select Auditorium Seating

    Design

Chairs for an auditorium are available in a range of colours, shapes, and styles. Meanwhile, the colour of the chairs must complement the seating style. And sometimes, the chairs are customised with custom images.

    Comfort

Comfort is the most important element that people look for in a chair. The comfort level impacts the user experience, and the chair design must keep the audience comfortable.

    Budget

Auditorium chairs come with several add-ons, but each add-on has a price. So, hall owners must fix a budget and ensure that they choose the most needed add-ons. Meanwhile, the price of chairs depends on the features and customisation.

    Function

Before choosing the seats, owners must consider the hall’s purpose and how the spectators will use it. Performances need dimly lit areas, and students need a surface to place their notebooks or tablets. Likewise, necessary add-ons need to be selected depending on the functionality of the chair.

    Space

The size of the chair depends on the available space and the number of people the hall needs to accommodate. These factors decide the seat size and amount of space between the rows. In the meantime, some auditoriums also have chairs that are spacious with reclining options.

    Layout

The layout of the space affects the selection of chairs for the hall. The floor is flat, sloped, or tiered, and the chairs are arranged in straight lines or a semi-circle. Similarly, every budget and every design has a unique seating solution.

    Acoustics

The acoustics of the hall must be considered before choosing the chairs. The acoustics depends on the surfaces in the space, and the material of the chairs affects the sound waves in the hall. Wood causes echo, but upholstered seats absorb the sound.

    Seat Configurations

    Straight Row

It is a common seating configuration in which the seats are arranged in straight rows. This configuration can have a straight or sloped floor, and it is ideal for small places that need to accommodate many chairs.

    Continental Seating

In continental seating, the chair arrangement has two aisles on the outer sides of the seating area. There is sufficient space between the rows, and there is no restriction on the number of seats in a row. This seating is found in venues that have historical performances.

    Multiple Aisle Seating

This type of seating is a combination of flat and sloped floors. The front rows are on a flat surface, and the back rows are on a sloped surface. The seats are arranged in straight rows, but the banks face the stage. This way, people sitting on any seat in the hall can view the stage comfortably.

All auditoriums must have unobstructed sight lines, and auditorium seating must enable audiences sitting in any corner of the hall to get an unobstructed view of the performance. Spaces between the rows must be sufficient to allow people to move freely inside the hall. A well-planned seating arrangement helps people to enjoy the performance comfortably from their seats.
